One of the most unique and original games I have ever played.

    Posted: 11 Jan 2021 12:28 PM PST

I finally decided to pick this up for $40 after initially being put off by all of the "it's a walking sim" talk. Yes, I am walking a lot, but I have also been completely mesmerized by the environment being a central character of the game and an essential part of the gameplay. I am also taken by the fact that I am not on some power fantasy trip with instant gratification. I feel like I am someone that is becoming a part of something bigger in a collective and that the experience is all about the moment-to-moment journey.

I immediately found myself appreciating the slower, more deliberate pace. I feel like an explorer or frontiersman in a sense. I cautiously want to take my time and take it all in, while experiencing all of these conflicting emotions all at once. It's relaxing, beautiful, contemplative, horrifying and tense at the same time and I cannot think of another game that is able to do this. In a word, it is pure art and I am in love with it.

So I just started the game today, and I'm afraid of going in too blindly, so I was wondering if there were anything I should know like any tips or something of that sort, thanks!

been vibing with this funky little game a lot

    Posted: 11 Jan 2021 04:38 AM PST

Building and upgrading my zipline network around the snowy mountains has unexpectedly been one of my favorite experiences in the game.

    Posted: 10 Jan 2021 10:38 PM PST

I finished this game, really good game, It feels like the message of this game is inspired by Evangelion.

    Posted: 11 Jan 2021 03:44 PM PST

Apart from the obvious evangelion references in the end, stuff like the dirac equation on the qpid with sam drowning in the tar or "dirac sea" reminds me of how evangelion used this concept, the threat of everyone's separate beaches merging after the last stranding, the beach itself being similar to AT Fields, and also Sam being a little bit whiny and refusing to connect people, literally, like shinji. Very interesting stuff.

The gameplay is good, but I think there should've been more focused on the travelling on foot aspect, rather than using vehicles and building actual roads and later zip-lines to move insane amounts of cargo across mountains and large rivers and whatnot.

I think this gameplay model is best suited to a exploration/navigation type of concept, where you navigate an extraordinarily large unknown territory on foot, making a map of the land as you progress, using tools at your disposal, creating ideal settling spots for settlers travelling behind you which you can revisit as need arises, maybe you get a bicycle you can strap on your back or creating using a PCC like futuristic gadget, but that would be the extent of the vehicles you can ride. And also an day/night cycle.

I feel like this game has gone under radar after its release, and other game developers might not take inspirations from this gameplay model, like many did from Legend of zelda BOTW, so anyone else making a game like this in near future, with different narrative design is highly unlikely, But I hope someone does. I would love a light hearted but realistic, story driven game with gameplay like death stranding.

    Problems with equip / unequip

    Posted: 11 Jan 2021 09:41 PM PST

Hi guys, when I equip a grenade, I am aiming and suddenly Sam unequips automatically. Then I have to equip again and aim and throw again.

This automatically unequiping and equipping without any reason happens a lot in the game.

Is this an issue I am facing? Is there a setting for this?

    Chapter 12 Impossible Extra Fight

    Posted: 11 Jan 2021 05:50 PM PST

Okay, I haven't been able to find anything about this encounter online.

In Chapter 12 I stumbled across a pack of four -legged-beast BTs: at least half a dozen or so that all attack at once. I had a quad RL, lvl 3 assaults, hematic grenades, some blood bags, but it was nowhere near enough (just rotating targets to slow them from overwhelming me). Nowhere to buy enough supplies to take on the horde in that chapter. Legit no way to do enough damage, drained all ammo and blood into it. Decided to come back after finishing... except I can't find them again.

...has anyone else encountered them? I ran all over the area trying to find them after the ending and it's bugging me. Pretty sure it was just West of the capital, before fighting the whale (which was way easier). Playing on hard, if it matters.

May be a stupid question, but do dead bodies actually pop BT’s?

I killed a few mules and couldn't be bothered to incinerate, but days later they're still there.

    Chiral Relay Safe House

    Posted: 11 Jan 2021 02:45 PM PST

How long does it take Aaron to reach the Chiral Relay and build the safe house? I've gotten his third message (The Chronicles of Aaron Chapter 3), but he hasn't sent any more since. It's been quite a while, how long does it take him? Do I have to do anything (I'm waiting for him to build it so I can store my stuff before crossing the tar)

[Chapter 1] How is there only one Corpse Disposal Team?

    Posted: 11 Jan 2021 02:28 PM PST

I didn't censor the title because I figured it barely counts as spoilers since it happens so early in the game.

I've finished the game, so other spoilers are okay, but I don't see how they'd even be relevant.

Right at the beginning of the game, we're basically told that Bridges' Corpse Disposal Team was wiped out in the Voidout that occurs in the prologue, which suggests that a) They only had one CDT and b) the entire CDT was in Central Knot at the time.

I ran some numbers. Currently (pre-COVID), around 7500 die in the US every day. This comes out to around 1 daily death for every 45,000 people. Most of the Knot Cities in game have a population between 70k and 80k. Even optimistically assuming that conditions in the Knot cities are so nice that the death rate is cut in half, that still means each of the knot cities should on average be seeing at least one death per day. How is one CDT supposed to keep up with even the 3 Knot cities on the eastern region?

Keeping in mind, of course, that the game's scale is obviously metaphorical. The Incinerator isn't actually closer to Capital Knot than the nearest grocery store is to my house, and Capital Knot and Port Knot aren't actually closer to each other than Brooklyn and the Bronx. If you spend an hour walking Sam across the map, it's really meant to represent weeks. But apparently Capital Knot didn't have it's own CDT?
