Posted: 11 Feb 2020 07:02 PM PST It feels like it has been so long since I've played a game that was made without pandering to the masses, that seems to have foregone safe design choices to instead be something that continually impresses more and more the deeper you get. It feels like so many modern games are tripping over themselves to show you what they've done that they shoot their load right out the gate then are in a fight with themselves to avoid tedium as the game runs on. In DS, though, I feel like so much of the coolest parts about the game were reserved for the end of the game. Yes, it creates a small hurdle you have to fight past up front, but the reward of being continually impressed more and more is worth the rough start. I think it shows a respect for the audience, and the treatment of this production as art, not commodity (if you can ignore the product placement of course- personally, the cameos are enough to offset it all IMO). But yeah. End rant. Sorry. None of my friends play and I've been soldiering through it alone just wanting to rave to someone and couldn't contain it any longer. Keep on keeping on. BB in Death Stranding says “I love you” in Japanese when soothing it Posted: 11 Feb 2020 09:13 PM PST I haven't heard anyone mention this and when I would try and search if anyone else had noticed, I couldn't find any posts or anyone who mentioned it. FYI I'm Japanese and speak fluently in both English and Japanese. When I first played Death Stranding, one of the first things I noticed was BB saying "Aishiteru" and then would say "Aishiteruyo" when you would sooth him when he would start crying. Both mean "I love you" in Japanese. On top of this, everytime BB would say it there would be heart bubbles coming out of its mouth, that would confirm it even more. I don't know if Hideo Kojima did it on purpose but it really seems like it. Has anyone else noticed this? I guess you'd have to know Japanese too, but for those who don't, now you know! [Tips] Spoiler Free tips for Early BT Detection Posted: 11 Feb 2020 08:01 AM PST Below are tips for detecting and avoiding BTs both with and without your Odradek. None of this info is presented directly to the player and may be considered spoilers by players wanting to discover and figure this all out via trial and error... I was the same way and all the power to play fellow blind porters. There are no story spoilers in this post. In addition to your innate senses and your odradek, you can detect BT locations based on in game phenomena. Sometimes even at great distances allowing you to avoid them entirely... a near vital trick early on if playing on hard difficulty. Chiral clouds and Timefall function in very similar ways as rainfall in real life. If the cloud looks like its touching the ground, that area is experiencing heavy rain. Heavy rain means BTs are either already present or will be arriving there very shorlty. The inverted rainbows signify that BT clusters have descended upon an area and should be avoided if at all possible. If forced to navigate through such an area, the individual black strands you see descending from the clouds accurately represent the locations of BT clusters beneath them. With this in mind, you can navigate between them even if your BB decides its nap time. If you're fortunate enough to have a functioning Odradek in the middle of a BT storm, pay close attention to the direction it points, its motion, and its color. Simply put, it will always point to the closest BT in its vicinity. This is useful when they're spread out, but can be misleading. Just because the Odradek is pointing yo a BT 3' to your left does not mean there is not one 3' 1" to your right. Do not panic and run unless you feel it's worth the risk and are prepared to accept the consequences as a player. Its motion will become more and more erratic the close you are to a BT. The more frantic it becomes, the more cautious you should be... if you slip up and trigger the hand print, the shape and motion of your Odradek will change to resemble a hand pointing directly at the threat. The color of your Odradek will change from blue to orange based on proximity and is a perfect indicator of when you should be holding your breath. If its orange, hold your breath and crouch walk away until it turns blue again. As soon as it turns blue, you're safe to breath and should do so immediately. Holding your breath for too long is the perfect way to ensure you'll already be low on breath when the next BT wanders too close. If you stress your BB to the point of serious nap time, you won't be able to rely on your Odradek. Here observing the weather and strands mentioned above will help. Timefall also gets heavier when BT are around, causing the plant life to grow and die rapidly. When you get within punching distance of a BT, even Sam can sense them enough to alert the player... so go slow and remain quiet. Holding your breath is a mixed bag of blessings and curses. In short, it makes you invisible to the BTs while also making them invisible to you. Rely on your Odradek to guide you away from the threat you can no longer see less you accidentally walk into them or their neighbor. Keep in mind that holding your breath only makes you invisible to them. It has no effect on their other senses which can vary from BT to BT. Be tenacious, observant, and adaptive. You'll get through this, Porter. [link] [comments] | ||
