This game has more in common with survival games than any other genre Posted: 12 May 2020 01:12 PM PDT A lot of people have erroneously called Death Stranding a Walking Simulator because it's quite frankly so unique, and involves a lot of walking, yet Walking Sims don't have nearly as much mechanical depth and gameplay as this does. In fact I'd argue that Death Stranding is a Survival Game in most respects. I've been playing a few games in that genre recently (Don't Starve, Subnautica, etc) and came back to DS, and their gameplay is pretty much the same save minor details. Survival Games (with or without a narrative attached) have the player manage one or more resources that deplete over time or with activity. Typically, these are things like Food and Water, perhaps item durability or batteries. While the former two are absent in Death Stranding, the latter two are definitely a big part of the game. Just like in any other survival game, these are initially time consuming and feel like chores, but a key source of enjoyment is improving things over time so that what used to be labor-intensive becomes gradually easier. This same gameplay loop describes the entirely of Death Stranding's gameplay to a T. The other major difference (initially) between DS and survival games is the former's lack of a centralized base. In your typical Minecraft or Subnautica, you typically gather resources and bring them back to a centralized base, which you then use to improve and build up. Death Stranding doesn't really build up it's Knots much, but gathering metal and ceramics into these hubs is still present. Instead, since the game gives you these objectives of "bring X from point A to point B", you can't stick around in one spot for very long. Instead, a lot of these resources instead go back out to improve the landscape you traverse so often. That's a slight but key difference, but the reward loop and gameplay is exactly the same. The deliveries themselves Re pretty much just an excuse to get you out of the door, and critics probably shouldn't focus on the "fetch quests" nearly as much as they do since they're not really that important. In fact, pretty much every feeling and gameplay element of a Survival Game is present in Death Stranding, from planning excursions to managing your inventory and it's capacity (weight). Of course Death Stranding has action, stealth and horror elements, as well as a story, but most other games in the genre have similar elements. So in the end, I think it's fair to say that Death Stranding is pretty much a unique twist on a Survival Game. So what? What does that give us? It's no secret that this game has been polarizing. A lot of people love it, others really don't. It can be hard to tell if this game is for you, or to recommend it to friends, as we don't have many points of comparison. I'd be willing to bet however that if a person enjoys Survival Games in general, and find their gameplay loops rewarding and fun, that they are likely to find Death Stranding fun as well. On the contrary, those who find such experiences repetitive and dull, even irritating, will probably not enjoy this game. Obviously everyone is different and this won't always be true, but I think the tendency is there, and can be used when recommending / selling the game to people (metaphorically or otherwise). What do you think? Am I right to think that Death Stranding is a Survival Game in disguise? [link] [comments]

Posted: 12 May 2020 04:24 PM PDT Its an easy order. Go to a BT area, get the items scattered around and them bring them to the Evo Devo biologist. Only issue is that i cant find the last piece of cargo. Before i got there i scanned the place and saw all of them, but after going around and collecting them, the last one just isnt there. Dosent show up on the map or with the odradek. Cant get a Legend Of legends rating without all pieces of cargo yet cant get find the last one. Has happened twice now. Makes no sense and its getting annoying. Idk if its a bug or what. Anyone have any awnsers? [link] [comments]
Am I doing something wrong or missing something? Posted: 12 May 2020 12:22 PM PDT I'm in episode 3 and it just seems like I'm doing A LOT of repetitive deliveries right now. Even before this it didn't feel this repetitive. Am I missing something or making this way more tedious on myself than necessary? [link] [comments]
