Death Stranding was an emotional journey for me.

    Posted: 17 Dec 2019 01:20 PM PST

Hey fellow Bridges employees! This morning I finished Death Stranding. And WOW! I have never been so invested in a game in my entire gaming career. I knew that the game was very polarized in general opinion. It was my friend Sam (talk about coincidence) that persuaded me into making the purchase.

Before I continue with this little essay, here's some personal background. My dad was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer about 2 years ago. He had been doing fine up until June. At that point, his health began to decline rapidly. Come Thanksgiving, the tumors began eating his bones, rendering him wheelchair-bound. At this point, I had gotten through the first two chapters of the game. We all know the scene I'm talking about. The one where Sam delivers morphine to his mom. That part slapped me in the face with reality. My dad's condition was getting worse. Walking to the incinerator with Bridget on Sam's back was painful. I teared up thinking of how that could be my dad very soon. Though there would be no voidout if my dad died, it would leave a void in the hearts of every person he touched.

Fast forward to the following Monday, my dad passed away. It's been a difficult time without him, and being a 21 year old kid with no father figure crushed me. Over the past week, I've gotten back into my routine of work, class, and video games. Death Stranding was first on my list. And through this entire week, I've been grinding, delivering packages, and making America a better place.

A part that really hit me was when I fast traveled with Fragile. She said something along the lines of, "I know it's really hard right now, but you're gonna get through this. You're not alone." I had to put down the controller for a few minutes and cry.

The entire concept of Death Stranding has been nothing but a support system for the gaming community. And for me, maybe a little more. It's a symbolic message that the weight you carry is not your own. And though you're walking a new path for you, it's a path that someone else has walked. And these other people have put down things for you to help you traverse the land a little bit easier. That alone brings tears to my eyes writing this now. This isn't to say that Death Stranding is a support system in my time of grief. But the message it has let me open up more about my grief, knowing full well that there are other "couriers" walking the same path. That we're all in difficult, unfamiliar terrain sometimes. And to me, that has been monumental as I process my dad's passing.

I love this community so much. And though none of you know it, you have helped me so much in getting through this. We are not alone. And if you ever come across a structure built by ThirdSoda, please drop a like or two 👍👍👍. Though I've beat the game, I'm going back to make the world a little nicer for the rest of you! Take care, fellow porters. I'll meet you on the Beach.

    Don't waste your deliveries!

    Posted: 17 Dec 2019 06:39 PM PST

I feel like there is some misconceptions by a portion of the player-base that ends up accidentally wasting their delivery time (unbeknownst to them).

For those looking to level up locations to 5-stars:

For the big cities – (Lake Knot, South Knot, Mountain Knot, Distro Centres):

    - The fastest way is to complete your road network and then take huge orders by road (preferably premium if you are wanting the platinum). Take a truck and pile it on. Take some smaller orders if you have space. In general, the huge cargo quantity orders will give you by far the best bang for your buck.

For the "reluctant" members – (Novelist's Son, First Prepper, Veteran Porter, Collector)

    - These guys you have to 'convince' to join the network. Doing mass deliveries here is a waste of time unless it was efficient to pick them up and you are trying to get premium deliveries. Basically every "day", there is a maximum you can level these guys up. Don't turn in multiple individual orders each time as you will likely go past the cap and the star rating will get stuck.

    - Do an individual order, watch the star rating climb, go sleep in a private room and then make sure to read any emails that pop up from the person. These emails effectively reset their "cap" and allow you to continue to progress the star rating. You will likely have to do this 4/5 times for each of these members.

Hope that helps people out there who are trying to figure out how to be efficient 😊 Keep on keeping on.

TLDR: Big Quantity orders for big cities - truck delivery. Single orders and then sleep and read emails for discoverable centres.

After 120 hours, this game has def changed me for the better. When I meet people irl, my first thought is no longer (as other games would have it), ‘how can I kill this creature in the face?’, but rather ‘I wonder if they have any disc-based media I can deliver?’ Choose ropes over sticks guys.
